Facebook battles Shagbook over trademark

Facebook is launching a lawsuit against a site called Shagbook claiming that the site has infringed on their Facebook trademark.



Although Shagbook has fired back that 'Facebook' was a generic term and therefore Facebook's claim had no standing. They say the term facebook has been in use long before the social site came up, and so should not have been allowed to use the name in the first place.



Based on the argument, from the Shagbook court filing, many think that Facebook's actions could threaten their trademark on "Facebook".

According to Shagbook there is no infringement on facebook's right as the two sites are very different in terms of the services they provide, stating that shagbook is a dating site and facebook is not.



Now this makes me wonder, because if the case go in Shagbook's favour then what will happen to the name facebook? will they have to change their name.



All I can say is facebook has made some little site very popular.
