DEALING WITH HYPERTENSION

Hello people,

I recently received a very sad news about a young man who died due to a blood cloth in his brain, which was caused by hypertension a.k.a high blood pressure, which now brings me to today's discussion.



Hyper-tension.



What is hyper-tension?

Hyper-tension or high blood pressure (HBP) is the pressure that arises from blood flowing from the heart through the arteries.



In simple terms pressure is needed to make blood flow from the heart to the organs through the arteries but when this pressure becomes too high the result is high blood pressure which can lead to heart problems or in some cases may damage the body organs.



Measuring your blood pressure



Blood pressure is the only thing that helps blood move around your body, that means there is a required (safe) amount of blood pressure for sustained living,outside which any other amount may be unhealthy.



Healthy blood pressure is below 120/80



Unhealthy blood pressure starts from 140/90



In between is Pre-hypertensive blood pressure from 120/80 to 139/89



The top number signifies the measure of expansion in the arteries when the heart contracts to pump blood forward to the organs, and the lower number signifies the pressure in the arteries when the heart relaxes.



They are called systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure respectively.



Treatment and Management

Some drugs have been designed to reduce high blood pressure, but practising some healthy tips can help you prevent HBP



*Exercise at least 30mins a day



*Avoid alcohol at least 1 drink a day for women, and 2 for men.



*Practice regular relaxation or Yoga.



*Eat less salt or salty foods.
